Transylvania Regional Hospital (TRH) wants to help you “get your plate in shape!

Join TRH to Mark National Nutrition Month, the Brevard hospital will hold a lunch and learn event on March 23, from noon to 1 p.m., in the Carlson Conference Room at TRH. Space is limited to 30 people for this free event, so make your reservation now by calling Amanda Fisher, RD, LDN at 883-5005.
Participants will enjoy a healthy and delicious “model” lunch prepared by the hospital’s Chef Peter Sotriffer, while they learn more about this year’s Nutrition Month theme – “Get Your in Plate in Shape” – from Amanda Fisher, a clinical dietitian at TRH.
Each March, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics celebrates National Nutrition Month to encourage healthy eating and provide information that will help ensure that people eat the recommended amounts of fruits, vegetables, grains, protein foods and dairy each day. This year, the focus on “reshaping” your plate involves rethinking the way we plan meals – with awareness of proper portion sizes and greater emphasis on fruits and vegetables. Essentially, by reshaping your plate, you can help “reshape” yourself and your health.
“Eating healthy is one of the most basic elements that can lead to better health,” Fisher said. “A proper diet can help prevent diseases and prevent or improve chronic conditions.”
Nutrition plays an important role in patient care at TRH, and the clinical staff collaborates with the hospital’s Food & Nutrition Services staff to provide wholesome, healthy meals for patients. What’s more, the hospital’s dining facility—the Connestee Falls Café—offers a wide variety of healthy choices for staff and visitors. TRH also participates in the Lighten Up 4 Life weight-loss challenge, a program that allows teams and individuals from the community to take part in a challenge to work toward a healthy body weight, with prizes awarded to teams with the greatest weight loss percentage.
