ACT Half Marathon  

Do Something Amazing This Summer!

Add the Asheville Citizen-Times Half Marathon And 5K Run & Walk to your Lighten Up 4 Life goals.

Each week walk or run a little more and build up your distance to join us for the race!
Keep track of your steps walked or your distance reached each week and by the end of the summer you’ll be ready.
Remember, whether you walk or run the 5K or go for the half marathon it’s a goal for you to work towards and reach. Just get out there and start walking, you’ll never know until you try!

Join the Asheville Track Club

An Asheville Track Club membership has many benefits.
-A subscription to Runnin' On, the club's bi-monthly newsletter.

Your membership goes a long way in helping to promote running and fitness in the Asheville area. Members include kids age 5-85, elites and walkers, participants and supporters. The ATC is an inclusive club that is heavily involved in the community and other non-profit organizations.

Phase two of the Oklawaha Greenway at Patton Park opened on Saturday, Nov. 14.  The new greenway travels from Patton Park, across the Norfolk Southern Railroad and North Main Street, south along Mud Creek to Seventh Avenue East. A great place to walk or run, the paved greenway is 1.1 miles.

Interested in running?  Join the Pardee Running Club.  Anyone can join for free.  Members receive their calendar via email each month and an occasional invitation for a group run.  Check out schedules at their website.

Pardee Running Club

Running is a great way to stay fit and have fun. If you are interested in running and would like to meet others with the same interest for group runs, or carpooling to area races, contact Schon Rittenhouse at: schon.rittenhouse@pardeehospital.org to join the Pardee Running Club. Membership is free and members receive a monthly calendar of events via email. If you are interested in weekday or weekend group runs, please email Schon.
Pardee Walking Club
If you are interested in walking, Pardee Hospital has an incentive-based walking club called Footsteps to Fitness. Call (828) 692-4600 for more information.
The Pardee Running Club was established in 1999 when a group of associates of Pardee Hospital got together to enjoy a shared interest – running. The club grew and by 2001 it was opened to the community. There are no fees or dues to be in the club and no required meetings. A calendar of regional running events is emailed to all members each month. In addition, the members occasionally get together for a group run after work or on the weekend. All levels of runners are welcome. Running is a great way to stay fit and have fun. Located in the Blue Ridge Mall on Four Seasons Boulevard

BLOOD PRESSURE CHECKS – FREE
Every Mon. & Thu., 8:30 – 9:30 a.m.; Every Wed. & Fri., 2 – 3 p.m., Every Sat., 10 – 11 a.m.  No blood pressure checks on Sept. 5, 7, 24 & 25.  Appointment not required.

CHOLESTEROL SCREENING – $20
Fasting required. Test provides total cholesterol, LDL, HDL and Triglyceride level. Wed., Sept. 9 & 23, 8 – 11 a.m. and Sat., Sept. 26, 9 – 11 a.m. Appointment required.

GLUCOSE SCREENING – $4
Finger stick test with fasting required. 
Thursday., Sept. 10, 8 – 10 a.m.  Appointment required.

BODY FAT % ANALYSIS – FREE
Simple test to measure the % of fat in the body. Wear short sleeves.
Monday, Sept. 14, 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.  Appointment required.

BONE HEALTH & OSTEOPOROSIS SUPPORT GROUP
Support for those who have been diagnosed with osteoporosis or low bone density.
Tuesday, Sept. 1, 1:30 – 2:30 p.m.  Registration not required.

DIABETES SUPPORT GROUP
Support for those with diabetes and their loved ones. The Sept. 2 meeting will feature “Update: Diabetes Treatments and Standards” presented by Donald Jablonski, DO, Country Clinic, Etowah.  The Sept. 16 meeting will feature "Diabetes and Dementia - Is There a Connection?" presented by Marcia Caserio, MA, Ed, Certified Gerontology and Jean Sitton, BSN,RN,C, MHS, Pardee Care Manager/ Discharge Planner, Pardee Hospital.
